Thank you for sending in your completed work Laura! See the feedback I have added below. 🙂

English Task

First of all, a brilliant story Laura! I really enjoyed  your story about a Bella and Amanda  going to Egypt to help Howard Carter! You used great fronted adverbials and I like that you have used different synonyms for said. It adds more detail about how the person is speaking and also it makes your story more exciting! Just remember, when we are using speech, the rule of using a new line for a new speaker. This makes it clear to the reader a new speaker is speaking.

Grammars

Maths

Well done for completing all your maths worksheets!

All correct

All correct! Just remember that you can only put one digit in each place value column so the 3 (300) would go in the hundreds column.

The first is correct! Wednesday challenge 1 answer is:Dora is correct because 70 is not a multiple of 3 so when you divide 7 tens between 3 groups there will be one remaining which will be exchanged. Wednesday challenge 2 is correct! Thursday challenge is correct!

Thank you Max for sending in your completed work! I am very happy to see you continuing to work hard! You are making me very proud Max! Keep it up! I really enjoyed reading your diary. Making a campfire does sound fun! I am glad to hear you had a fun day! Some feedback on your diary: make sure you add full stops after each sentence. It helps the reader to know when to take a pause. Your grammar starters were correct except for Friday’s grammar starter. Look at Natalia’s grammar starter above for the answers. I am very happy to see you tackle the 3 stars guided reading task which was quite challenging! You got 7/10 correct! Brilliant score Max! The answers for the questions you got incorrect were: Q7. It’s surprising the body can do this. Q9. To engage the reader/read on. Q10. To help you pronounce the word as it’s a tricky word to say.

A Message from Mrs Kay:
Hi Children
Hope you’re all keeping well. I can see you’ve all been REALLY busy. The homework pages look absolutely brilliant. You really are an amazing bunch of children.
Year 6 your VE day work is marvelous. I love the photos sent by Josh and Jack in Sycamore class and Kacper and Marley in Hawthorn, your work on The Rainforest is amazing, especially Kacper’s drawing. The writing, maths and sewing activities in Rowan class are always so good.
I always enjoy having a sneaky peak at everything you do, before I post my activities.  Your teachers must be so proud of you. Well Done KS2!
I’ve been creating again and would love it SO much if more of you would take on the slipper challenge. Who can create a pair of recycled slippers from a hand towel, a cardboard box and a pop bottle?
Take care all of you and hopefully we’ll all be together soon.

Thank you Liam for completing your homework! It’s great to see you working so hard at your desk! Your diary entry was brilliant! With your great use of descriptive language, I got a glimpse into your life in quarantine. I am happy to read that you are staying busy with lots of activities. Your use of subordinating clauses was great and you remembered to separate them using a comma when they were at the beginning of a sentence! Well done! Keep it up!

Thank you Alfie for completing your Monday’s homework this week! I am really impressed with your presentation of your work. Keep it up! Your maths challenges are all correct!  Well done on completing your RE homework too! I am so happy to see you working so hard! Keep up the good work Alfie!

Thank you Princess for sending in your completed work! Some feedback: your fact file about the amazing NHS was brilliant! I learned lots of interesting facts! I really liked the use of questions as subheadings- it made it easier to locate information as well as informed me what that paragraph was going to be about. Remember when we we add a subordinating clause at the beginning of the sentence, you need to separate it using a comma. For example, from your text:

Well if you haven’t, I’m going to tell you some information about it.

Your spelling challenge and grammar starter answers were all correct! Well done!

Thank you Samuel for completing your homework! I am really happy to see that you are working so hard! Remember subordinating clauses start with subordinating conjunctions. They also don’t make sense on their own whereas main clauses are independent clauses so do make sense on their own. When writing subordinating clauses at the beginning of a sentence, separate them using a comma from the main clause. Overall, a great effort in completing your work! Keep up the good work!

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SUBMIT YOUR BOOK IN A BOX ENTRIES BY FRIDAY 15TH MAY. WINNERS WILL RECEIVE A STAR PRIZE!

Hello 4 Poplar!

Don’t worry, I’m not giving you any work on this special VE day.  I just wanted to share some photos and a message from Mrs Kay on how to make a beach bag.

The answers for the weekly spelling challenge were:

  1. February        2. naughty         3. bicycle            4.  disappear

I hope you all remembered to write February with a capital ‘F’.

HOW TO MAKE A RECYCLED BEACH BAG.

Hi Children I’m back again. HOPE YOU’RE ALL KEEPING SAFE AND WELL. Let’s all look forward to happy days on the beach or shopping with this new recycling idea I spotted on the internet.

It shows how to make this great lined beach/swimming/shopping bag out of two old pillow cases. Preferably a favourite one or that will remind you of this time of lockdown. I chose colour to remind me of blue skies and golden sands. I can’t wait for a time when I can use it.

What you need:-
1 patterned/favourite pillow case (plead with mum to replace it with a plain one)
1 plain pillow case
Scissors
Thread
Cotton
Dressmakers pins
Iron (ask for help when using this)Instructions
I’ve posted the You Tube link I used to create the bag. It’s a tricky one but I know some of you will take on this challenge.

Thank you Natalia for sending in your completed English, maths, grammar, spelling and reading tasks! Some feedback on your English Task. First of all, brilliant effort in completing your fact file about the NHS. I have learned lots of interesting facts from reading your fact file! Next time, remember to start a proper noun with a capital letter from example ‘Wales’ and National Health Service. Also you could expand on some of your facts using subordinating conjunctions to explain further. For example you have written, “The coalition government has made cuts to the NHS.” This sentence could have been expanded further using the subordinating conjunctions ‘because’ to explain why they did this or ‘which’ to explain what impact this has had. For example, The coalition government has made cuts to the NHS which has created a shortage of 20,000 nurses.

Isaac has been practising learning his times tables! Well done Isaac! Make sure you also do your learning tasks from this web page too.

Thank you Laura for sending in your completed work! Wow I am super impressed with how well you are working! Keep it up! Some feedback on your story: I really enjoyed reading it! You have such great imagination Laura and great use of descriptive language! Don’t forget to separate your reporting clause from your speech with a comma. For example, Henry exclaimed to himself, “Hmm, well it is very sunny and my food is very warm.”

Overall, a brilliant story about the ogre and his friend which came from a single picture! You should be really proud of yourself Laura!

For your Literacy task, Mrs Page would like you to create a fact file/information text about the NHS as they are working so hard to keep us all healthy and safe.  Due to the Bank Holiday, your work should be completed by Monday 11th May and emailed to:

admin@stcolumbas.bradford.sch.uk

Remember that a fact file requires factual information, needs a heading and subheadings and should include an introduction to explain to the reader what the text is going to be about.  You can gather information using the websites below or search the internet for your own resources.  You could include information about when it started and why, who works for the NHS and what the NHS does.

Thank you Lexie for sending in a photo of you working hard! Keep it up!

Thank you Natalia for sending in photos of your completed work. Looks like your dogs were waiting very patiently for you to give them their treats!  Your story was amazing! I really enjoyed reading it! Some feedback: You have actually used a great simile so I would tick that on your steps to success and also remember to separate you reporting clause with a comma (also remember the speech rule: new speaker new line) and your fronted adverbial with a comma too.

For example:

So a minute later, an owl came and introduced himself quickly, “Hello Sir. My name is Mark. What is yours?”

Fred answered slowly, “My name? Ummm… My name is ummm…Fred… Fred, yes, Fred.”

Overall, you should be super proud of your story! You have incorporated the steps to success criteria really well in your work. Keep it up Natalia!

Thank you Maisie for sending in photos of you completing your work. Lovely to see you smiling and working hard! Some feedback on Tuesday’s grammar: remember to underline the determiner before the adjective in your expanded noun phrase i.e. the, his their. Your Wednesday’s grammar, Q2 subordinating conjuction is ‘After’, Q5 it is ‘While’ and Q8 it is ‘If’. Remember subordinating conjunctions can be at the beginning as well as in the middle of a sentence. Some feedback for your English work- Next time, if you are asked to write a story, plan your story first to help you by using these subheadings beginning, build-up, plot, resolution and ending. These can be then used to help you to organise your information into paragraphs and write a story. Hope this helps! Overall, a brilliant effort in completing your maths, grammar and English task. You are making me really proud of how much effort you are putting in. Keep it up and keep smiling!

Thank you Samuel for sending in your completed work! Looks like you have been working hard! Keep it up! Some feedback on your grammar tasks- Monday’s grammar, you have underlined the incorrect verb for Q1. It should be ‘got’. The word ‘spelling’ is an adjective in that sentence. You have underlined the incorrect adverb for Q6. It should be ‘almost’ as it modifies the verb ‘tripped’. The word ‘over’ is a preposition in that sentence. The rest of your answers are correct! In your Tuesday grammar starter, remember to underline the determiner (e.g. the, their, his) before the adjective too. Overall, well done!

A message from Princess!

Dear Miss Fatima,

Thank you for ringing and checking on me. This really made me happy. I have missed school but my parents have been fantastic helping me with my homework. Mummy has also been teaching me how to do some cooking which I really like. I have managed to access lots of home learning websites and am really giving all a go. I hope to see you soon and all my friends when the school reopens.

Thank you Princess for your message. This has really cheered me up! I am so glad your Mummy has been able to help you with your homework and is also teaching you how to cook! A great life skill!  In my free time, I am also learning how to cook. I really enjoy it too. I send photos of my cooking to my sisters and ask them for advice. Most of the time, they’re impressed with my cooking! On a few occasions, I have gotten into some minor accidents! Let’s just say, I need to be more careful when using kitchen tools!

Also, thank you Princess for sending in your completed maths and English task! Can I just say, what a unique idea for writing a set of instructions for! Well done for being so creative! A really cool idea! (sorry I had to! Haha!)

Some feedback on your English task- You have actually completed all your steps to success even though you haven’t ticked all of them! Remember an imperative verb (also known as bossy verbs) is one that tells someone to do something, so that the sentence it is in becomes an order or command for example from your instruction text these are: grab, get, pour..etc. You have also used  prepositional phrase too i.e. ‘in the freezer’.

Thank you Maisie for sending in your English task! Some feedback- your first sentence is not a a rhetorical question. If you want to change it so that it is a rhetorical question it would be: Have you ever played an Obby? You have forgotten to write a list of things you will need but well done for writing a chronological set of instructions! Overall,a great effort Maisie!

Thank you Samuel for sending in your homework! Looks like you have been working very hard with you maths work! Keep it up!

Thank you Natalia for sending in your completed English Task from last week! A super set of instructions! Your apple cake with custard  certainly does look delicious!

Thank you Max for sending in  photos of what you have been doing! Please can you take a close-up photo of your English task next time so that I am able to read it? Nevertheless, from what I can see, you have written a great set of instructions. However, remember to start each instruction with a capital letter. Also those cookies with apples look absolutely scrumptious!

Thank you Alfie for sending in some work you have completed. Please can you do the tasks from White Rose Maths and English tasks that I have been setting on here? Thank you.

Thank you Kelsi for sending in photos of what you have been doing! Looks like you and your brother had a great time in the pool!

REFLECTING ON VIRTUES ACTIVITIES

During these difficult times we find ourselves in, the Jubilee Centre for Virtues have created some excellent fun activities for our children to enjoy and think about how we can help ourselves and others. I have uploaded each activity which are linked to the following virtues:

EMPATHY

GENEROSITY

HONESTY

COURAGE AND BRAVERY

COMPASSION, KINDNESS AND GRATITUDE

FRIENDSHIP

The Friendship activity is linked to Christmas however all you need to do is link it to what is happening to us all now during the pandemic. You could create a thank you card for all the key workers, your family. The list is endless.

Please email any activities to our admin email.

Thank you!

You can also access them and print them off by clicking on the link below.
