This year, we will be following the National Curriculum for Year 1.  We will studying subjects such as; literacy, mathematics, science, RE, PE, music, history and geography.

During our first half term, in our maths work, we will be focussing on: place value – counting and ordering; addition and subtraction and shape.  In our literacy work we will be focussing on: engaging with texts; segmenting words; blending sounds and writing simple sentences.

Every Tuesday, your child’s teacher will change your child’s home school reading book.  Outside the classroom, there are some reading books that you can choose to read with your child for pleasure.  You can choose these books in a morning as and when you need to.  Please ensure you read with your child every evening!

On Wednesdays, the children will be given homework and spellings.  The children will need to bring their homework back to school on the following Tuesday.  The children will be tested on their spellings on a Tuesday morning in their phonics groups.

On Thursdays, we will have our PE lesson.  Please ensure your child has a plain white t-shirt and black shorts in their pump bags.

If you have any questions or problems, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Thank you.
